Kitesurf trick

Frontroll

Beginner
  • Jump
  • Rotation

A forward rotation where you look over your back shoulder and roll away from the kite. Usually learned after the backroll, and harder because you must start the rotation yourself.

How to

  1. Ride with speed

Ride with moderate speed on a solid upwind edge with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock.

  2. Kick off your edge

Send the kite only a little, no further than 12, and stamp hard off your back leg to go up first.

  3. Look over your back shoulder

As you leave the water, turn your head and shoulders to look back over your back shoulder and bring your front knee toward your chest.

  4. Stay compact

Keep the bar close and your knees tucked to rotate fast.

  5. Spot and land downwind

Look for the landing, turn the board downwind and steer the kite forward as you touch down.

Common mistakes

  • Hesitating at take-off

Commit to the head turn at the moment you pop, not after.

  • Diving over the nose

Kick upwind and turn around the board instead of throwing yourself forward across it.

  • Opening up early

Hold the tuck until you see the landing.
