Kitesurf trick
Backroll
- Jump
- Rotation
A backward rotation where you carve upwind and spin round to land going the same way. Usually the first rotation riders learn, because the upwind carve does most of the work.
How to
Carve hard upwind
Ride with speed, kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, and carve hard upwind by turning your shoulders and driving against your edge.
Short sharp send
Give the kite a short, sharp send toward 12 o'clock as you kick off your back leg, then level the bar.
Lead with the front leg
Keep turning your hips and lead with your front leg so the carve drives the rotation.
Look over your shoulder
In the second half of the rotation, turn your head to look over your front shoulder and spot the landing.
Land downwind
Drop your legs under you and touch down with the board pointing downwind.
Common mistakes
Turning the head early
Keep your eyes on the horizon at take-off and only look round in the second half.
Pulling the bar early
Carve and kick before you pull the bar so the edge drives the rotation.
Landing across the wind
Point the board downwind before you touch down.
