Kitesurf trick

Frantrum

Intermediate
  • Jump
  • Rotation
  • Inverted

A frontroll set-up that turns into a backflip off the back edge, with the board straight above your head. It mixes your frontroll and backroll into one inverted move.

How to

  1. Set up like a frontroll

Ride with speed and good line tension, kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, and carve as you would before a frontroll.

  2. Release the back hand

Release your back hand and hold the bar at the centre with your front hand.

  3. Cut the nose in

Carve the front of the board in so the back edge catches and loads hard.

  4. Head back, knee up

Bend your front knee, throw your head back and tighten your abs so the board flips straight above your head, and learn it over deep water in moderate wind.

  5. Spot and land

Find the landing, put your back hand back on the bar and land with the board pointing downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Slack lines

Keep the kite steady and the lines tense through the carve so the edge has something to pop against.

  • Pulling on the bar

Keep the front hand at the centre of the bar so the kite stays steady.

  • Under-rotating the flip

Commit with your head and pull your knees up with your abs until you see the water.
