Kitesurf trick

Frontroll Inverted

Intermediate
  • Jump
  • Rotation
  • Inverted

A frontroll where you stretch your legs up at the top so the board goes high, close to the lines. It turns a flat frontroll into a proper inverted rotation.

How to

  1. Edge hard upwind

Ride with speed and edge hard, kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, and learn this over deep water in moderate wind.

  2. Pop and dip the shoulder

Pop with your front knee coming to your chest and dip your front shoulder towards the water to start the frontroll.

  3. Throw your head back

Throw your head back and look at the water so your body goes inverted instead of flat.

  4. Kick your legs up

Kick your legs straight up over your head while your back hand stays at the centre of the bar and the lines stay tense.

  5. Spot and land

Bring your knees back in, spot the landing and land with bent knees riding downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Staying flat

Throw your head back and kick your legs higher so your feet go above your head.

  • Moving the kite

Keep your back hand at the centre of the bar so the kite stays put while you are inverted.

  • Not tucking to finish

Bring your knees back in once you pass the top so you come round in time.
