How to

   Jump high and steady

   Edge hard and send the kite to 12 o'clock for a high, controlled jump, in moderate wind over deep water.

   Grab the fin

   Reach your back hand to the back heelside corner and grip the fin with your fingers, thumb pressed on the deck.

   Throw your feet up

   Pull both feet out and throw your legs up toward the kite so you hang upside down with the board held below you at arm's length.

   Swing the board back

   Let your legs come down and swing the board back under your feet like a pendulum.

5. 5

   Feet in and land

   Get your front foot in first, then the back foot, and dive the kite to land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

• Fin slipping

  →Grip the fin in its middle and press your thumb into the deck before your feet come out.

• Starting too late

  →Take the board off on the way up so your feet are back in before you drop.

• Both feet at once

  →Get the front foot in first so the back foot can follow easily.
