Boardoff Spin

A boardoff where you take the board off by the tail, spin it a full 360 and catch it, then put your feet back in the straps to land. It needs height and a confident boardoff.

How to

  1. Boost high

    Send a big jump with the kite at 12 o'clock, on a kite you know in steady wind.

  2. Board off early

    Lift your knees, grab the tail, ideally with a handful of fin, and take the board off while you are still rising.

  3. Start the spin

    Bring your hand up, over and across in front of you to spin the board, letting go after about half a turn.

  4. Catch the rail

    Catch the board around the middle of the toeside rail as it comes round and bring it back under you.

  5. Feet in and land

    Lift your knees to slide your feet into the straps, then dive the kite and land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Board off too late

    Take the board off on the way up so you have time to spin and catch it.

  • Board stuck under you

    Lift your legs and lean back so the board comes off in front of you, not under and behind.

  • Running out of time

    Keep the bar in for float and dive the kite for landing even if your feet are not fully in.
