Kitesurf trick

Tabletop

Intermediate
  • Jump
  • Inverted

A stylish jump where you twist your body so the board comes up flat above you, like a table top, then unwind to land. A first step into inverted style once your jumps are solid.

How to

  1. Send for hang time

Send the kite just past 12 o'clock and pull the bar in with both hands as you rise, starting with jumps of moderate height.

  2. Swing your back arm back

At the peak, let go with your back hand, swing it behind you and look down at the water behind you.

  3. Kick the board up

Let your body follow your head and scissor your legs so the board swings up flat above you.

  4. Lock your front hand

Keep your front hand tight against your hip so the kite stays sheeted in and holds you up.

  5. Unwind and land

Turn back round, return your hand to the bar and dive the kite to land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Starting it too late

Start the twist right at the peak so you have time to unwind.

  • Kite drifting forward

Make sure the kite is just behind 12 o'clock before you let go of the bar.

  • Legs swinging on landing

Dive the kite harder so it pulls you back to a downwind landing.
