Kitesurf trick
Jump
- Jump
Your first real airtime, using the kite's lift and the board's edge together to leave the water. It opens up every jumping trick, from grabs to rotations.
How to
Build speed and edge
Ride with good speed and the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, edging upwind.
Send the kite
Steer the kite firmly toward 12 o'clock with the bar slightly out while you edge harder to load the lines.
Pop off the edge
As the kite reaches about 12, pull the bar in, push off your back leg and let the kite lift you.
Sheet out and redirect
At the peak, ease the bar out and steer the kite forward toward your direction of travel.
Land downwind
Keep your knees up until you near the water, then land with the board pointing downwind and knees bent.
Common mistakes
Sending without edging
Edge hard upwind as you send so the kite lifts you instead of dragging you downwind.
Kite left behind
Steer the kite forward as you come down so it catches you on landing.
Landing stiff-legged
Bend your knees and touch down heading downwind to absorb the impact.
Builds on
Unlocks
