Kitesurf trick
Pop to Blind
- Jump
- Rotation
A pop where you turn backside in the air and land riding blind. It brings together your pop and your blind riding, and it is a stepping stone toward unhooked and wakestyle tricks.
How to
Approach on an edge
Ride heelside on a gentle upwind edge at moderate speed with the kite fairly high at 11 or 1 o'clock.
Turn and stamp
Hold the bar in the center with your front hand, then carve against your edge and kick off your back heel like an ollie.
Rotate half a turn
In the air, push the bar away slightly and lead the turn with your head and back shoulder until your hips have turned 180 degrees.
Land centered
Land upright over the board with the bar sheeted out and your free hand pointing back for balance.
Ride away blind
Get onto your toes and flex your ankles and knees to pick up speed riding blind.
Common mistakes
Pulling the bar in
Push the bar away as you pop so the kite does not choke and then pull you off balance.
Looking for the landing
Lean your head back and turn your shoulders, since trying to see where you are going stops the turn.
Pulled over on landing
Commit to the full half turn so the board lands under you and not upwind of your body.
Builds on
Unlocks
