Half Backroll Transition

Beginner
  • Jump
  • Transition
  • Rotation

A low transition where you start a backroll, stop after half a turn and land riding toeside the other way. It turns your backroll into a smooth change of direction.

How to

  1. Edge upwind

Ride with speed and edge upwind with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock.

  2. Move the kite up slowly

Steer the kite slowly toward 12 o'clock instead of sending it hard, so you stay low.

  3. Start the backroll

Pop gently and turn your head and shoulders upwind to start rotating backward as for a backroll.

  4. Stop at half

Stop the rotation once your old back shoulder points downwind at the kite.

  5. Land toeside

Touch down on your toe edge heading the new way and ride away with the kite on the new side.

Common mistakes

  • Full backroll by habit

Stop when your old back shoulder points at the kite instead of rotating all the way round.

  • Sending the kite hard

Move the kite up slowly so the move stays low and controlled.

  • Kite left on old side

Bring the kite to the new side during the rotation so it pulls you out toeside.
