Kitesurf trick
Backroll to Toeside
- Jump
- Rotation
A backroll that you finish on your toe edge instead of heelside. It is a normal backroll with a toeside landing, using the landing you learned in the pop to toeside.
How to
Bear away from an edge
In flat water, edge with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock and your weight on the tail, then bear away slightly so you keep line tension.
Carve and pop
Carve upwind and kick off your back leg before you pull the bar, without sending the kite.
Roll slowly
Rotate a calm, normal backroll with your head turning to look for the landing.
Swing the hips through
Near the end, let your hips and legs bring the board round to toeside while your upper body stays where it is.
Dive and land toeside
Dive the kite forward before you touch down, then land on the toe edge and ride away.
Common mistakes
Over-rotating the roll
Rotate a normal backroll and let your hips make the toeside landing instead of spinning further.
Kite parked high
Give the kite a healthy dive before landing so its forward pull takes you onto your toes.
Pulling before the kick
Kick off your back leg first, then pull the bar.
