Kitesurf trick
Jump Start
- Fundamental
- Jump
A start where you stand strapped in on the sand or in the shallows, let the kite lift you and jump straight out onto the water. It skips the water start and gets you riding in one move.
How to
Stand strapped in
Put your feet in the straps or boots at the water's edge with the kite parked at 12 o'clock.
Crouch and get ready
Bend your knees deep, hold the bar near your chest and point the board across the wind toward your riding direction.
Steer toward your direction
Steer the kite from 12 toward 11 or 1 o'clock in the direction you want to ride until you feel it lift you.
Jump with the lift
Jump as soon as you feel the pull and let the kite carry you out over the water.
Land and ride away
Land on your back foot with knees bent and edge away, and only try it where the water ahead is clear of people and obstacles.
Common mistakes
Jumping before the lift
Wait until you feel the kite pull you up before you jump.
Steering the kite too low
Stop at 11 or 1 o'clock so the kite lifts you instead of dragging you.
Landing with stiff legs
Bend your knees as you touch down so the board does not stop dead.
Builds on
Unlocks
