Kitesurf trick
Toeside Frontroll
- Jump
- Rotation
A frontroll started from toeside riding. It adds toeside edging and a stronger kick to the forward rotation you already know.
How to
Set up toeside
Ride toeside with your chest and hips open down the board, weight on your front foot, kite at 11 or 1 o'clock.
Send and carve
Give the kite a short, sharp send toward 12 o'clock and carve harder upwind, dropping your weight against the edge.
Drop back and stamp
As the lift comes on, shift your weight over the tail, then stamp hard off the ball of your back foot and level the bar.
Dip your head
From the kick, drop your head and leading shoulder toward the water and bring your knees up to roll forward.
Spot and dive
Look over your back shoulder for your landing, steer the kite forward early and land tail first heading downwind.
Common mistakes
Weight too far back
Open your chest, bend your front knee and drive your knees forward so the board doesn't drag on approach.
Pulling before the kick
Stamp off your back foot first, then level and pull in the bar for lift.
Throwing yourself across
Kick yourself up and upwind first and let the head dip start the rotation.
