Stalefish Frontroll

Intermediate
  • Jump
  • Grab
  • Rotation

A frontroll where your back hand grabs the heelside edge between your feet behind your back leg. It adds a classic grab to your frontroll and is a natural follow-on from frontroll grabs.

How to

  1. Edge and pop

Ride with speed, kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, and edge hard, then stamp off your back foot as you pull the bar in.

  2. Keep it slow

Keep your shoulders level and your upper body back over the tail instead of throwing yourself forward, so the rotation stays slow and off axis.

  3. Front hand on the bar

Hold the bar on the sweet spot with your front hand and steer the kite forward.

  4. Grab stalefish

Bend your legs and reach your back hand behind your back leg to the heel edge, then extend your back leg for the tweak.

  5. Dive and land

Release, dive the kite hard and land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Can't reach the grab

Stop throwing yourself forward and keep your upper body back over the tail.

  • Dropping too quickly

Pull the bar in on take off and steer the kite forward so it keeps you floating.

  • Holding too long

Hold the grab only briefly at first so you have time to dive the kite for landing.
