Kitesurf trick
Backroll Barspin
- Jump
- Rotation
A backroll where you let go of the bar, let it spin on the lines, and catch it again before landing. A good next step once your backroll is steady and you want to work on bar handling.
How to
Set up the bar
Move the stopper ball close so the bar stays near you when you let go.
Pop into a backroll
Edge hard and pop with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, starting the rotation as usual.
Let the bar go
Near the peak, let go with your back hand first, then your front hand, so the bar spins freely while you keep rotating.
Catch it again
Grab the bar back in the centre as it comes around, keeping the kite stable.
Finish and land
Complete the backroll and land heading downwind.
Common mistakes
Throwing the bar
Release it with a light twist so it spins in place instead of flying away.
Catching off centre
Catch the bar in the middle so you do not steer the kite.
Kite drifting
Practise first with the kite steady at 11 or 1 o'clock.
