Kitesurf trick

Frontroll Kiteloop

Advanced
  • Jump
  • Rotation
  • Kiteloop

A frontroll with a kiteloop, where the kite pulls you through the rotation and carries you downwind. The same move as the backroll kiteloop, rotating forward instead.

How to

  1. Set up the approach

Approach as for a sent frontroll with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock, on a fast kite in wind you are not overpowered in, over deep water.

  2. Send and kick

Give the kite a positive send, kick off your back leg and dip your front shoulder to start a slow forward rotation.

  3. Level the bar

Level the bar as you pull in so the kite stops high near 12 o'clock while you rotate.

  4. Loop at halfway

Once you are halfway round and looking back over your back shoulder, steer the loop hard with both hands and keep it turning.

  5. Let it breathe

As the kite climbs back toward 12, ease the bar out so it catches you, and land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Mistimed loop

Pull the loop when you are halfway round, because earlier may not bring you round and later can over-rotate you.

  • Letting off the steering

Keep steering until the kite is heading back up to 12 so it can catch you.

  • Rotation too fast

Kick gently and let the send lift you so the rotation stays slow enough to time the loop.
