Tail Grab

Beginner
  • Grab

Grabbing the tail of the board with your back hand during a jump. One of the first grabs to learn, and a good way to start holding a position in the air.

How to

  1. Jump with height

Send the kite to 12 o'clock and take off with a solid pop so you have time in the air.

  2. Tuck your knees

Pull your knees up so the board comes to your hand.

  3. Reach for the tail

Let go with your back hand and grab the tail behind your back foot, front hand in the middle of the bar.

  4. Release and prepare

Let go of the tail as you start to drop and bring your hand back to the bar.

  5. Land and ride away

Send the kite forward, land with bent knees and point the board downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Reaching down for the board

Bring the board up to you by tucking your knees instead of bending over.

  • Holding the grab too long

Release as soon as you start dropping so you have both hands for the landing.

  • Steering with the front hand

Hold the bar in the middle so the kite stays steady while you grab.
