Melon Grab

Beginner
  • Grab

A jump where your front hand reaches down behind your front leg to grab the heelside edge between your feet. A good grab to learn early, as it keeps you balanced over the board.

How to

  1. Jump with control

Send a comfortable jump with the kite near 12 o'clock and the bar in your back hand.

  2. Lift the board

Tuck your knees up to bring the heelside edge within reach.

  3. Grab behind the front leg

Reach your front hand down behind your front leg and grab the heel edge between your feet.

  4. Tweak the board

Pull your back knee toward your chest and extend your front leg for style while you hold the grab.

  5. Release and land

Let go as you start to drop, take the bar with both hands and land heading downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Grabbing the toe edge

Keep your hand on the heel side, reaching behind your front leg.

  • Board too low

Pull your knees up further so you do not have to bend down to the grab.
