Seatbelt Grab

Beginner
  • Grab

A grab where your back hand reaches forward across your body to hold the nose, so your arm lies across your chest like a seatbelt. A good next grab after your first jump grabs.

How to

  1. Jump with steady height

Pop for a controlled jump with the kite near 12 o'clock and your front hand on the bar.

  2. Bring the nose in

Bend your front knee and straighten your back leg so the nose comes up close to your body.

  3. Reach across your chest

Let go with your back hand and reach forward across your body to grab the nose.

  4. Release and recover

Let go as you start to drop and put your back hand back on the bar.

  5. Land downwind

Extend your legs and land on the tail with the board pointing slightly downwind.

Common mistakes

  • Nose too far away

Bend your front knee and extend your back leg so the nose meets your hand.

  • Twisting the bar

Keep your front hand steady at the centre of the bar while you reach across.

  • Grabbing too late

Reach for the nose as soon as you reach the top of the jump.
