Kitesurf trick
Downloop Transition
- Transition
A transition where the kite loops downward through the power zone, pulling you through the turn with speed. A step up from a basic transition and a first taste of looping the kite.
How to
Fly the kite high
Ride with steady speed in moderate wind and steer the kite up high, close to 12 o'clock, before you turn.
Flatten and start carving
Flatten the board, shift your weight back over the tail and start carving downwind.
Loop with the front hand
Pull your front hand firmly and push the back hand away so the kite dives and loops down through the window.
Hold the bar and carve
Keep the bar in that position and keep carving while the kite pulls you round the turn.
Let the kite climb
As the kite climbs on the new side, level the bar, ease it out and ride away on your new edge.
Common mistakes
Looping from too low
Fly the kite up toward 12 o'clock first so the loop has room and does not hit the water.
Looping while still edging
Flatten the board before you loop so the kite does not haul you downwind.
Chasing the kite
Hold your first push and pull and focus on the carve so the kite does not crash.
