Kitesurf trick
Toe to Heel Transition
- Transition
A carving turn that takes you from riding toeside back to heelside in the new direction. It completes your basic transitions, letting you change direction smoothly from either edge.
How to
Ride toeside with speed
Ride toeside at steady speed with the kite at 11 or 1 o'clock.
Steer the kite first
Steer the kite firmly across the window toward the new direction, keeping it below 12 o'clock.
Shift onto the tail
When you feel the kite start pulling the other way, move your hips back over your trailing foot and flatten the board so it turns.
Drop onto your heels
Sink onto your heels with your upper body upright as the board comes round into the new direction.
Ride away heelside
Let the kite settle at 11 or 1 o'clock on the new side and edge to hold your ground.
Common mistakes
Kite flying too high
Steer more firmly from a lower start so the kite cuts across the window instead of going up over 12.
Carving before the kite
Wait until you feel the kite pulling toward the new side before you flatten and carve.
Falling backward
Drop only your hips back over the tail and keep your shoulders upright over the board.
