Kitesurf trick
Handdrag
- Drag
Carving or riding while one hand slides through the water surface. A playful first style trick that teaches you to edge low and trust the harness.
How to
Ride heelside with power
Ride heelside in a straight line with good power and the kite fairly low, around 10 or 2 o'clock.
Take the front hand off
Release your front hand and keep your back hand centred on the bar, opening your shoulders toward where you are going.
Drop your hips low
Lower your bottom toward the water with your legs extended and your upper body upright, as if sitting in a canoe.
Drag your front hand
Drop your front shoulder as you edge and let your front hand trail through the water beside you.
Come back up
Bring your hips back up and return your hand to the bar.
Common mistakes
Squatting on bent knees
Keep your legs extended so the board stays on its edge and the kite keeps its power.
Weight over the back foot
Keep your weight centred so the board does not carve upwind and stall.
Bar trimmed wrong
Feather the bar gently so the kite neither stalls nor depowers.
Builds on
Unlocks
