Kitesurf trick
Barefoot
- Drag
- Board-off
Taking the board off and skimming along on your bare feet, held up by the kite like a barefoot water skier. An advanced board-off that tests how finely you balance kite pull and foot pressure.
How to
Approach low and fast
Edge in flat water clear of shallows and other riders, with the kite fairly low around 11 or 1 o'clock and your straps loosened.
Pop before the lift
Do a small, low pop off your edge before the kite starts to lift you.
Grab the board
Take the board off with your back hand and hold it beside you while your front hand stays on the bar.
Drag your feet
Touch down on your heels with knees soft, leaning back against the kite so your bare feet skim the surface.
Feet back in
Hop up, bring the board back under your feet and slide into the straps before you run out of speed.
Common mistakes
Sinking straight away
Lean back against the kite and keep the bar sheeted in so it holds you up as your feet touch.
Popping too late
Pop before the kite lifts you so you stay low enough to drag your feet.
Staying barefoot too long
Keep the run short and put the board back on while you still have speed.
